A Bit About Me

This semester I have grown in so many ways. Through I-CORE and various other courses, I have learned how to be a successful student, professional, and team member. Through reflecting on my "I am" and "I want to become..." statements, I have learned that I truly believe it is important to have balance. It is imperative to remind yourself of what really matters most and to avoid getting caught up in all the little things. As a young girl, I would get worked up over things that truly did not matter. It is important to "zoom out", see the bigger picture, and remind yourself to seek balance in all aspects of life. As I move forward as a student and professional, I believe it is important to remember these things and to always remember the bigger picture.

"I am" Statement:

I am someone that finds joy in being out in nature. Whether that is at the top of a mountain or in the middle of the desert, I will always aspire to keep my adventurous spirit alive.  The adventurous spirit I obtain is something I hold close to my heart as it encourages me to be courageous, curious, and explore the world through new lenses. I am thoughtful, intentional, and someone that puts family above all else. I am dedicated to my school work, but I am someone that often refocuses and reminds myself of what is truly important in my life.

"I want to become..." Statement:

I am someone that finds joy in being out in nature. I will always aspire to keep my adventurous spirit alive. I want to become someone that not only recognizes their adventurous spirit, but strives to keep it bright and ablaze. I want to become someone that explores the world and travels to learn about other cultures. I want to become someone that is not only well-traveled, but someone who immerses themselves into new environments. In addition to traveling, I also want to continue to cultivate my love of nature. I want to become a seasoned hiker and never cease exploring and appreciating the grandeur of the mountains.

I am someone who puts my family above all else, and I want to become a mother that my future children can depend on. I want to build a home and family in which my children will experience the love and laughter I was able to as a young girl. I want to be a beacon of light for my future family and a parent figure they can count on. I want to become a better daughter, sister, future mother, and friend.

I am someone that often refocuses and reminds myself of what is truly important in my life. While I am dedicated to my school work, I want to become someone that can let go of external expectations and focus on the things that truly ignite my soul. I want to become someone that wholeheartedly chases after my dreams without fear or hesitation. I want to use my past struggles to persevere through hard times and never forget my desire to courageously seek out new adventures.

Journey Map:

In my junior year at IUPUI, I was in an honors course in which we conducted self reflections and assignments that lead to personal growth. One of these assignments was a "journey map". We were asked to think of significant moments in our lives and reflect back on how these moments affected our lives moving forward. We were given time to truly look back and examine influential moments we have experienced. We also had to link a specific emotion or feeling with that memory. Please click the link below to view my "Journey Map"!

ReFLECTION: Reflecting back on my journey map, I am stunned to have had so many influential experiences that have sincerely changed my life. The assignment required me to examine personal things that have changed the trajectory of my life. The journey map assignment struck a cord with me because I am someone that likes to ponder past life experiences. It is important to look back on what has lead us to where we are now. Looking back on my story, I have learned I am strong, I am bold, and I am resilient!
